Barbary Sheep

This mammal, Ammotragus lervia, is somewhat between a sheep and a goat.  Rams can be more than twice as heavy as ewes, reaching 140 kg/310 lbs in weight.  The curtain-like fringe of hair under the throat and on the chest and upper legs is also larger in the ram, as are the horns.  This species is also known as Aoudad, Waddan, Arui and Aruis.  They naturally occur in mountainous terrain in the Sahara Desert and the Atlas Mountains, but have been introduced in several other places, and flourish in the southern USA and in southern Europe.  Watercolour.
