European Roller

An European Roller, Coracias garrulus. This beautiful bird is a summer visitor around here. They arrive from Europe and Asia! Rollers are robust, big-headed birds and catch insects and other small animals from perches. They have raucous calls and are relatives of the equally beautiful kingfishers and bee-eaters.
