Meerkats 2

An extended family group of Meerkats, Suricata suricatta. I painted this as a commission for people living in Botswana, prime Meerkat territory! Did you know that 'Meerkat' comes from the German 'Meerkatze' which means 'cat from the sea' ... and that the name today mostly refer to monkeys? The idea being that exotic critturs were in the old days brought to Europe by sailors, so you might as well call them all sea-cats. Meerkats belong to the Mongoose family of course. Watercolour.
