Moropus elatus

Here's my takeHere's my take on good old Moropus!  This was one of the largest known of the Chalicotheres, an ancient group of mammals related to horses, rhinos and tapirs.  They differed from all of these in having large claws on all four their limbs!  It was believed they used these claws for digging up tubers and roots, but now it's believed they might have used their claws, along with their lengthened forelimbs, to grab branches and strip the leaves from them.  Moropus achieved a height of about 2.4 m/8' at the shoulder, and lived from about 23 to 14 million years ago, in North America.  Watercolour.
