Tawny Eagle

The Tawny Eagle, Aquila rapax, is a large eagle that occurs widely in Africa and Asia. It is a rather generic looking brown eagle, often confused with other brown eagles. Its size and legs feathered right down to the feet distinguish it from snake eagles, and it always have tawny or light brown in its plumage. Most similar to it is the Steppe Eagle, which has a much wider gape, the corner of the mouth going back behind the eye; in the Tawny Eagle it only goes back to the level of the mid-point of the eye.
