Waterbuck Dawn

Waterbucks, Kobus ellipsiprymnus, are large, shaggy antelopes that are frequently seen in nature reserves in South Africa. They also occur elsewhere in Africa, in savannah country. They're not always in or close to water, but will flee into the water to escape from predators. They have a musty secretion that keeps their fur waterproof but also gives their meat a bad taste. Southern African waterbucks have a white ring around their backsides - you can see a bit of it here in the female on the right - as if they'd sat on a toilet seat freshly painted white.
