Whitebrowed Sparrow-Weaver

The Whitebrowed Sparrow-Weaver, Plocepasser mahali, is a chunky, sparrow-like bird that is common in my part of the world (northern South Africa).  These birds make untidy grass nests mostly in umbrella-thorn trees.  They live in small extended family groups.  Most nests are used for roosting.  Only the dominant male and female in each group breed, the others helping them feed and take care of the chicks.  Watercolour.
