Description
The Knysna Turaco, Tauraco corythaix, is a relative of the Purplecrested Turaco but lives in moister, taller forest, typically on cool, misty mountain slopes. They are restricted to South Africa. Only in the far south in the Knysna Forests do they occur at sea level; they were also named for these forests. They have hoarse calls adding to the atmostphere of these mysterious and ancient forests. Like the Purplecrested Turaco they have brilliant red flight feathers that are hidden under the wing coverts until they launch themselves into the air to fly from one tree to the next. Watercolour.
