Description

Mandrill, Mandrillus sphinx.  The ulitmate colourful primate and master of the angryface!  Mandrills are among the biggest of the monkeys, captive specimens having exceeded 50 kg though wild ones are only about half that.  And those are the males - females are much smaller, and also not as brightly coloured.  Sadly, mandrills are highly endangered in the wild - but they're present in many zoos.  Small acrylic painting.

Funnily enough, I've done a bit of research on these guys. Ironically they are much gentler than many smaller types of monkeys, interspecies conflicts rarely escalating beyond bravado and visual threats.
