Regisaurus jacobi

Another small synapsid from South Africa that almost no-one has ever heard about!  Regisaurus was a therocephalian, related to Bauria which I featured here a bit earlier.  It lived in the early Triassic period.  Regisaurus, despite its size, was probably an effective predator.  It had long, sharp canine teeth, suitable for dispatching invertebrates as well as small vertebrates.  It had a secondary palate, like Bauria, but its dentition was more 'primitive' in that it had more incisors than more advanced Baurioids.  A closely related species, Urumchia lii, was found in China.
