Rosy-Faced Lovebirds

A loving couple of lovebirds!  The rosy-faced lovebird, Agapornis roseicollis, is the parent species of most lovebirds in the pet trade.  Few people realize that these tiny parrots are native to southern Africa!  What's more, they're birds of desert and semi-desert, rather than inhabiting lush savannahs or rainforests.  They have an interesting habit of tucking nest materials into their dense rump feathers, to carry them back to their nests.  They sometimes take over spare nesting chambers in the huge communal nests of sociable weavers.  Acrylic.
